One thing I’m always curious about is Australian police prisoner transport such as the divvy van. It doesn’t look safe in a rear end shunt and not as safe as the van variety for officers opening the cell door to remove the prisoner.

In the U.K. as well as the regular saloons you guys have, we have cell vans for more violent or drunk prisoner where the cell can be accessed from either one or two sides. Allowing the officer to view the prisoner prior to opening the cell protected by steel bars and perspex covering.

when the criminal is in the back they’re belted in and they’re always handcuffed. so not much of a threat to the cp unloading them. but if he/she is thrashing around the officers will simply hit them with a good dose of pepper spray.

as for a rear end shunt, good point. no idea on that, can’t say i’ve heard of any shunts up the bum while transporting criminals.

Haha, it was a wagon I think, it was right outside the flinders street station steps. I’ll snap a pic if I do ;)

Couldn’t help but wonder what was in store for us with the end of Australian car production
